Statement From Governor Culver And Lt. Governor Judge On Senate Appropriations Committee Action For Disaster Assistance
DES MOINES – Today, Governor Chet Culver and Lt. Governor Patty Judge issued the following statement regarding the Senate Appropriations Committee setting the dollar amount for federal disaster aid, which will be divided among Iowa and several other states.
“We are pleased that the Senate Appropriations Committee has put forward the details for federal disaster assistance, and plans to mark up legislation to include funding for disaster recovery efforts across the country, including Iowa. This action not only ensures federal disaster legislation will be debated when Congress re-convenes in September, but sends a message to Iowans that Congress is committed to helping those impacted by this year’s natural disasters. We want to thank Senators Harkin and Grassley – as well as Iowa’s entire congressional delegation -- for their tireless efforts to move this legislation forward.
“Our state faces billions of dollars in projected unmet needs, which is why we will never stop fighting for the people of this state. This step is only the beginning, and we look forward to working with our federal partners in the coming days, weeks, and months as we move down the road to recovery. Together, with their help, and the help of all Iowans, we can return life to normal for all Iowans affected, and create a brighter, stronger, and more secure future for everyone.”
